The Plot

Anya and Gina have been texting for months. What started as a regular conversation between teens on Instagram turned into a daily ritual, and they both started having feelings for each other. Anya thinks she’s not ready to meet Gina in person; ghosts of disappointing past relationships stop her from taking their relationship outside of social media. One night, Anya bumps into Gina at a friend’s party — now she has to bring her digital identity and relationship with Gina to the real physical world.

The Project

deadpavo is a fiction short film about adolescence, digital relationships, identity and sexuality. Through the young relationship between Anya and Gina, the film explores the ways in which digital connections and identities that have been created and reinforced in social media collide with the real, physical world.

The short aims to naturally represent the teenage years within the digital environment, from personal representation to relationships and communication. Its production, as our senior year final project, took 12 months to see the light of day and was made possible thanks to the financial support of 84 patrons.

To properly represent adolescents, we wrote the script after various discussions and improvisations with our actors, which in turn helped us get really close to the team and encouraged a very intimate, special environment during the shooting of the film.

Festivals

Since its release, deadpavo has been featured in multiple european film festivals — such as Mostra Out! (Barcelona), LesGaiCineMad (Madrid), Euroshorts (Warsow) and the International Film Festival in Mallorca, where it won the Special Mention from the jury. In 2021, deadpavo had its US premiere at the Micheaux Film Festival in the Chinese Theater, Los Angeles.
